Our first visitors

Today was an exciting day, my parents arrived as our very first visitors on the boat! The bedroom still wasn’t completely ready, so Alex spent most of the day installing the wall panels. It was another hot one. While he got to work early, I grabbed a bucket, the scrubber, to finally tackle the deck.

Would it have been smarter to clean the deck yesterday when it was cooler and rained? Arguably, yes. But here we are. Turns out, cleaning the deck is more work than it looks, getting it really clean is no easy task. After about an hour of scrubbing, I decided it was good enough. Afterwards, I sat down and booked a rental car to pick up my parents from the airport. Alex was still working steadily on the bedroom, so I prepared some food, cleaned the lower deck, and cleared out the front cabin to make space for us to sleep.

By the afternoon, Alex had finished installing the walls, complete with trim. It’s not quite finished, we still need to add the wall covers, but it already looks great. Once that was done, we cleaned the aft cabin and got the beds ready.

Then it was time to walk to the airport. The walk takes about 45 minutes and unfortunately runs along a busy street. We chatted along the way and picked up the rental car without issue. About half an hour later, I spotted my mom and dad coming out of the terminal. It was so nice to see them again after all this time.

We hopped in the car and drove to the marina. Since the rental was an automatic, Alex, who’s flying out tomorrow, could also drive and return it. On the way, we stopped to grab a few snacks for the evening. Because we had quite a bit of luggage and only room for two passengers in the dinghy, my dad and I headed out to the boat first. It was already dark. I came back to pick up Alex and my mom and they were all excited to tell me they had just seen a pretty large stingray in the water!

Once everyone was on board, we motored over and settled in. The evening was lovely, we sat together chatting, nibbling on cheese, and sipping wine and rum with coke. A perfect first night with guests on board.
